This introductory course covers the principles of BSL and enables you to learn some basic sign language. You will learn about the importance of hand shapes and visual expressions, as well as present methods of communicating with deaf persons or sign language users.

You must be over 19, have an interest in the subject area, and be willing to partake in classroom activities and discussions and to self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan at the end of each session.
During the course you will cover the following topics: Fingerspell your own name Sign and respond to a number of greetings Recognise and sign at least three family signs Recognise and sign at least three colours Identify types of weather and respond appropriately to questions about the weather Be able to recognise and respond to simple feelings.
